Game 3 Summary
F.C. Fredericksburg Generals at Savannah Supergoose
Generals End Road Trip as League’s Highest Scoring Offense
The second game of the day proved to be an intense battle as the F.C. Fredericksburg Generals defeated the Savannah Supergoose 15-5 in a game that left the Generals six points clear at the top of the PASL Southeast Division heading into the winter break. The Supergoose got off to an early start scoring on their first shot of the game just over one minute into the match. This marked the first time all season that the Generals were behind in a match. Jeremy Young notched the game at 1-1 with his first goal of the season just one minute later. After a penalty ridden first half that saw both team receive numerous power play opportunities, the Generals went into the halftime break holding onto a slim 5-3 advantage.
“Give some credit to Savannah tonight. They came out and got on top of us early. That was the most pressure we’ve seen all season and their guys should be given some credit,” said Head Coach Eric Dutt. “We got tested a bit tonight and it was a great effort from everyone in the second half that helped us get the three points we needed.”
The Generals started the second half with a fury of goals. Four goals in quick succession extended Fredericksburg’s lead to 9-3. After Savannah, pulled one back, the Generals got goals from Dan Hinkley and Patrick Jenkins to end the third quarter with an 11-3 advantage. The fourth quarter saw more power plays for both teams and the Generals once again were able to capitalize. Goals from Kelvin Jones, Steven Wolfe, Dan Hinkley and Brion Kelly in the fourth quarter sealed the victory for the away team.
“Throughout the game, our power play unit was spot on. I think we were 6 for 6 on the power play and Wolfe was able to sneak one home while we were shorthanded. Those units tonight deserve some praise,” Eric Dutt added. “We’ve scored some great goals in the first few games and hopefully we can continue this output,” as he comments on the 13.0 goals per game average that currently leads the entire league.
The Generals currently have 6 players with at least four goals (Tommy Park-5, Dan Hinkley-5, Colin Vint-5, Kelvin Jones-4, Steven Wolfe-4, Steven Rupp-4). The Generals look to extend their divisional lead with their next three games being played at home at the Fredericksburg Fieldhouse.
